Obtaining Data

The UKHO and the custodian organisations make information available in many ways, either through their published products or by supplying unpublished information.

A signed licence agreement (which has been signed both by you and by us) must be in place before you reproduce any of our material. Please be aware that we will take any breach of our agreement or infringement of our copyright seriously, and we will take action to remedy both.

1. If you have signed one of our commercial licence agreements, we will supply digital data under the terms and conditions of that licence agreement. The cost of supply is included in the licence fees payable under the licence agreement (excluding those datasets where it is indicated that a supply charge is payable).

   The table below shows the data types, formats they are available in and the frequency of supply. It also shows data from other organisations that we can supply:

2. If you have obtained a non-commercial or low-value licence for Non-commercial or low-value commercial products intended for non-navigational purposes, you must own a copy of the material you want to reproduce. We do not supply digital material if you are reproducing our data for non-commercial or low-value commercial purposes.

   You can, however, buy customised data from us for inclusion in your products via the following links:

   • Tidal Prediction Service - The Tidal Prediction Service (TPS) offers bespoke tidal predictions in a range of different layouts. It can be delivered in either digital or analogue formats.
   • Astronomical and calendarial data - The HM Nautical Almanac Office produces bespoke astronomical data suitable for a wide range of users.

Much of the material we publish or hold comes from copyright material belonging to other organisations - usually another hydrographic office or a port authority. This material is protected by Crown copyright and by the copyright of those organisations. Some organisations, under a service called Custodianship, allow us to grant licences on their behalf.
